Child Safety Standards
Effective date: 16 October 2026
Waevo has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). Waevo is for adults aged 18 and over only. We remove anyone who puts a child at risk, and we report child sexual abuse to the authorities.
1. Our standards
These standards apply to everything on Waevo: live video and audio, chat during calls, messages, photos and profiles. They are part of our Terms of Service. The following are banned, and anyone doing them is removed permanently:
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) of any kind, including drawn, edited and AI-generated images, and images a young person took of themselves.
- Sharing, asking for, selling or pointing to CSAM, or links to it.
- Grooming: building a relationship with a child in order to abuse or exploit them, including trying to move them to another app.
- Sextortion: threatening to share sexual images of a child or young person, or using images to demand money, more images or anything else.
- Sexualising children in any way, including in comments, usernames, bios or role-play.
- Arranging, or trying to arrange, to meet a child.
- Anyone under 18 using Waevo, and anyone helping a child to use it.
2. Adults only
- To create an account you must sign in with Apple or Google and give your date of birth. The app won't create an account for anyone under 18, and you can't change your date of birth afterwards.
- Our matching system refuses to pair anyone recorded as under 18 with an adult.
- Anyone can report a user who looks or says they're under 18. One report is enough to act on (see section 5).
3. How Waevo is built to prevent abuse
- Nudity detection in every call. The app checks each person's video, and the video they receive, using a detection model that runs on the phone. Nudity in someone's own video turns their camera off and ends the call; nudity in the video someone receives is covered on their screen and flagged to us. Repeat offences lead to escalating bans and then a permanent ban.
- Photo checks. Every uploaded photo is checked on the phone and again on our server, and explicit images are rejected.
- No recording. Waevo never records calls, and the app blocks screenshots and screen recording during calls.
- Report in every call, profile and chat, and block from any profile or chat. Reporting someone from a call with someone new, or from their profile or a chat, blocks them straight away.
4. How to report
- In a call with someone new: tap Report, then the under-18 reason, or Nudity or sexual content if that's what you saw. The call ends, the person is blocked, and we're alerted straight away.
- From a profile or chat: tap Report on their profile or in the chat menu, then the under-18 reason. The person is blocked and we're alerted straight away.
- In a call with a friend: tap Report, which ends the call. Then email us (below) so we know it's about a child.
- By email: [email protected]. Tell us the username, what happened and roughly when. Never send us sexual images of a child, even as evidence. Sending them is a crime. Describe what you saw instead and we'll take it from there.
If a child is in immediate danger, call 999 in the UK, or your local emergency number. You can also report directly to:
- CEOP (National Crime Agency) for online sexual abuse or grooming: ceop.police.uk/safety-centre
- Internet Watch Foundation for child sexual abuse images or videos found online: report.iwf.org.uk
- NCMEC CyberTipline in the United States: report.cybertip.org
5. What we do when we get a report
- Immediately: a report that someone is under 18 hides all of that account's photos from everyone and takes it out of matching. Until a member of our team has checked the account, it can't message or call anyone. The same happens when someone is reported and their own messages or profile suggest they may be under 18.
- Human review: a member of our team reviews every child-safety report as our top priority, ahead of all other reports. Reports that someone is under 18 never go to our AI reviewer: a person always decides.
- If the user is a child: we close the account permanently and delete their data, except what we need to keep to protect them or to pass to the authorities. We keep a scrambled (hashed) copy of the account's Apple or Google sign-in ID, so the same sign-in can't be used to join again.
- If an adult has abused, exploited or put a child at risk, or has shared CSAM: we ban them permanently and remove the content. We keep the relevant account information and evidence securely, only as long as the law allows and the authorities need it. We report it to the National Crime Agency (including CEOP) and, for images, the Internet Watch Foundation. Where there is a connection to the United States, we also report to NCMEC. We cooperate fully with police investigations.
- Confidentiality: we never tell a reported user who reported them. We may not tell them about a report at all if that could put a child at risk or harm an investigation.
Waevo doesn't record video, so we can't keep footage of live calls. What we can keep and pass on are account details, reports, safety records and any photos or messages stored on Waevo.
6. The law we follow
We comply with UK child safety law, including the Online Safety Act 2023, the Protection of Children Act 1978 and the Sexual Offences Act 2003, and with Google Play's and Apple's child safety requirements. We follow guidance from the National Crime Agency and the Internet Watch Foundation on handling and reporting CSAM.
7. Child safety contact
Our designated child safety point of contact is Deen, Child Safety Lead ([email protected]). They are responsible for these standards, for how we handle reports, and for working with law enforcement.
