Terms of Service
Effective date: 16 October 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Waevo. By creating an account or using Waevo you accept them, along with our Safety & community guidelines and Child safety standards, which form part of these terms. Our Privacy Policy explains how we use your data. If you don't agree, please don't use Waevo.
1. About these terms
Waevo is a live, one-on-one video app for meeting new people and making friends. It is run by Quorl Ltd (company number 17272292, registered in England and Wales) of 66 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NA, United Kingdom ("Waevo", "we", "us"). These terms cover the Waevo app and the waevo.app website.
2. Who can use Waevo (18+)
Waevo is strictly for adults. To use it you must:
- be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher;
- be able to enter a legally binding agreement;
- not have been banned from Waevo before; and
- not be required to register as a sex offender in any country.
Giving a false date of birth breaks these terms. If we find out that someone under 18 is using Waevo, we will close their account (see our Child safety standards).
3. Your account
- You sign in with Apple or Google, give us your real date of birth, and take a real photo of yourself. You can't change your date of birth later, so get it right.
- One account per person. Don't share, sell or transfer your account, and don't use someone else's.
- You're responsible for what happens on your account. Keep your Apple or Google account secure, and tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else has used your Waevo account.
- We give you a username to start with. If you change it, don't choose one that impersonates someone, is offensive, or uses someone else's brand.
4. Community rules
Waevo only works if people feel safe. On camera, in chats, in photos and in your profile, you must not:
- Show or share nudity, sexual content or sexual activity.
- Involve anyone under 18 in any way. This covers letting a child use Waevo, sexualising, grooming or exploiting a child, and sharing, asking for or pointing to child sexual abuse material. We report this to the authorities.
- Harass, bully, threaten, stalk or intimidate anyone.
- Post hate speech, or attack people because of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or age.
- Show or promote violence, self-harm, suicide or eating disorders.
- Share or promote anything illegal, including terrorist content, fraud, and selling drugs or weapons.
- Impersonate anyone, or misrepresent who you are, how old you are or who you're connected to.
- Scam, spam, ask for money, advertise or run commercial schemes.
- Record, screenshot or share other people's video, audio, photos or messages without their consent, or share anyone's personal information (such as their address) without permission.
- Evade a ban or block, get around our safety systems, or create accounts to do so.
- Use bots, scrapers or automated tools, or interfere with how Waevo works.
Our Safety & community guidelines explain these rules in more detail.
5. Your content
"Your content" means your photos, profile text and messages. Your video and audio during calls aren't covered here, because we never record or store them.
- You keep ownership of your content.
- You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, display, transmit and check your content. This includes using automated and AI tools to check it. We use this licence only to run Waevo, keep it safe and enforce these terms, for example to show your profile to people you meet and deliver your messages. We won't use your content in our advertising without asking you first.
- The licence ends when you delete the content or your account. Copies may remain for the limited periods explained in our Privacy Policy.
- You're responsible for your content. You confirm that you have the right to share it, and that anyone else shown in your photos has agreed to it.
- If you send us ideas or feedback, we can use them without paying you.
6. How we keep Waevo safe
We use these tools, including automated "proactive technology", to find and deal with content that breaks these terms or the law:
- Live nudity detection on your phone. During calls the app checks your own video, and the video you receive, using a detection model that runs on your phone. Frames never leave your phone. If your own video shows nudity, your camera is turned off, the call ends and your account gets a strike. Nudity in the video you receive is covered on your screen and flagged to us for review.
- Photo checks. Uploaded photos are checked on your phone and again by a detection model on our server. Explicit photos are rejected. Profile photos are also checked by the phones of people who view them, and a photo is removed once three different people's phones flag it.
- Reports, blocks and ratings from users.
- AI-assisted review. A report never leads to a warning or a ban by itself, and never lowers anyone's rating. We use an AI model provided by Anthropic to help review reports, including recent messages between the two people where there are any. It can dismiss a report, apply a warning or a ban, or pass the case to a person. It can't ban anyone on one person's word alone.
- Human review by our team: for reports about children, threats, violence or self-harm, for cases the AI isn't sure about, for appeals, and wherever we decide a person should look.
- Age and reputation rules in matching. Matching never pairs anyone recorded as under 18 with an adult, and keeps low-reputation accounts away from others for a short time. An account reported as under 18, or held while a person reviews a serious report (such as one about violence or self-harm), is taken out of matching and can't message or call anyone until a person has checked it.
Depending on how serious the problem is, we may give a warning, cover video, end a call, remove content, hide photos, take an account out of matching, restrict features, apply a temporary ban, or ban an account permanently. Our automatic ladder for nudity is: three strikes bring a ban of 1 hour, then 24 hours, then 7 days, then a permanent ban. We may ban permanently straight away for serious harm, especially anything involving children. Where the law requires it, or someone is at risk, we report to the police or other authorities.
Automated tools can make mistakes. That's why you can always ask a person to review a decision (section 7).
7. Reports, complaints and appeals
Reporting
- In a call with someone new: tap Report and choose a reason, such as the under-18 reason or Nudity or sexual content. The call ends, the person is blocked, and the report reaches our moderation system.
- During a call with a friend: tap Report. The call ends and the report reaches our moderation system.
- From a profile or chat: tap Report on the profile or in the chat menu and choose a reason, including the under-18 reason. The report reaches our moderation system and the person is blocked. You can also use Block on its own from either place.
- By email: [email protected] for anything involving children, and [email protected] for everything else. Include the username and what happened.
If anyone is in immediate danger, call 999 in the UK, or your local emergency number.
A report on its own never leads to a warning or a ban: it is reviewed first, as described in section 6. We don't tell the person you reported that it was you.
Complaints
You can complain to us about content on Waevo, about how we've applied these terms, or about how we're meeting our duties under the Online Safety Act 2023. Email [email protected] with "Complaint" in the subject line. We'll acknowledge your complaint and aim to give you a full answer within 14 days.
Appeals
If we've removed your content, restricted your account or banned you, and you think we got it wrong, you can appeal. On the ban screen, under Think this is a mistake?, tell us what happened and send your appeal. You can appeal each ban once in the app. You can also email [email protected] with your username and why you think the decision was wrong. Every appeal is reviewed by a person, not an AI. If the decision was wrong, we'll reverse it, for example by lifting the ban or restoring your photos. Appealing doesn't affect any other legal rights you have.
8. Subscription: Waevo Max
Waevo is free to use: meeting people worldwide, adding people during or after a call, friends, DMs, calling friends, and every safety and reporting tool. One optional paid plan, Waevo Max (monthly or yearly), adds:
- Local matching: meet people in your own country, or nearby, based on your phone's region setting (never your location).
- Priority matching: when lots of people are waiting, Max members are matched first. Free members are never left waiting indefinitely: after a short wait they're matched just as quickly.
- Adding People you've talked to: everyone can see the people from their calls of 30 seconds or more; Max members can add them later with one friend request each.
- No ads.
- Interest matching: people who share your chosen interests are offered first.
Max members have a Max badge on their profile. If you subscribed to one of our earlier plans, it now gives you Waevo Max for the rest of your subscription, at the same price.
How subscriptions work:
- Plans are sold and billed by the Apple App Store or Google Play, and their terms also apply to your payment. The price, including VAT, and the billing period are shown before you confirm.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. You're charged at the start of each new period. To avoid the next charge, cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date.
- Free trials. If a plan comes with a free trial (for example a 7-day Waevo Max trial), it turns into a paid subscription when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before then. Each person can have one free trial.
- Price changes. If the price goes up, Apple or Google will tell you in advance, and you can cancel before the new price applies.
- Free days from referrals. When a brand-new member signs up with your invite link, you each get a free week of Waevo Max. Free days aren't a subscription, don't renew, can't be exchanged for money, and are cancelled if we find self-referrals, fake or duplicate accounts, or other abuse.
- We may change what the plan includes. We won't make a change that significantly reduces what you've already paid for during your current period.
9. Cancelling and refunds
- iPhone: Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Waevo, or in the app tap Manage plan.
- Android: Google Play → your profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Waevo, or in the app tap Manage plan.
- When you cancel, you keep your plan until the end of the period you've paid for, and it then stops renewing.
- Deleting your Waevo account does not cancel your subscription. Cancel in the store first.
- Refunds are handled by Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com) or Google Play under their refund policies. For Google Play purchases you can also contact us, and where appropriate we can refund you through Google Play.
- Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer, including any right to cancel and get a refund under UK consumer law.
10. Ads
The free version of Waevo shows ads from Google, for example while you wait for a match or while a call connects. Waevo Max removes them. In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland, ads are only personalised if you agree in Google's consent message, and you can change your choice at any time in Settings & account → Ad privacy choices (see our Privacy Policy). We don't make, sell or endorse the products being advertised, and any purchase you make from an advertiser is between you and them.
11. Our app and intellectual property
Waevo's name, logo, design and software belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, in line with these terms. You must not copy, modify, resell, or reverse engineer the app, except where the law allows. You also must not access Waevo by any means other than our app. Waevo includes open-source software, which is covered by its own licences. For safety reasons, the app doesn't run on jailbroken or rooted devices.
12. Suspending or ending your account
- You can stop using Waevo and delete your account at any time: Profile → Settings & account → Delete account.
- We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or if we reasonably believe you put other people at risk. We'll usually tell you why and how to appeal. We may not tell you if doing so would put someone at risk, harm an investigation, or break the law.
- If we close your account for breaking these terms, you won't get a refund for the rest of a subscription period, unless the law says otherwise. You must not create a new account.
- If we decide to stop running Waevo, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice in the app. Where we can, we'll stop renewals so you aren't charged for a period you can't use.
13. What we can and can't promise
We'll provide Waevo with reasonable care and skill. But Waevo connects you with people you haven't met before, and there are limits to what we can do:
- We don't run background checks or verify users' identities. Ages are what users tell us when they sign up.
- Our safety tools are strong but not perfect. Detection can miss things or flag things by mistake.
- We aim to keep Waevo available, but can't promise it will always be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change or improve features over time.
- Use your judgement. Don't share personal or financial information with people you meet, and take sensible precautions if you ever decide to meet someone in person.
14. Our responsibility for loss or damage
- If we break these terms or fail to use reasonable care and skill, we're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that was a foreseeable result. Loss is foreseeable if it was obvious it would happen, or if we both knew it might happen when you accepted these terms.
- We aren't responsible for loss that wasn't foreseeable, for what other users say or do (unless our own failure caused your loss), or for business losses. Waevo is for personal use only.
- Apart from the next point, our total responsibility to you is limited to the greater of what you paid for Waevo in the 12 months before the claim and £100.
- Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit. Nothing here affects your statutory rights, including those under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
15. If you got Waevo from the App Store
- These terms are between you and Waevo, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
- If the app fails to meet any warranty that applies, you can tell Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). To the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
- Apple isn't responsible for any claims relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet legal requirements, consumer protection or privacy claims, or claims that it infringes someone else's intellectual property. We are responsible for dealing with those claims.
- You confirm you're not located in a country subject to a US government embargo, and you're not on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and can enforce them against you.
16. Changes
We may update these terms, for example when we add features or the law changes. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app at least 14 days before it takes effect, unless it has to happen sooner for legal or safety reasons. If you don't agree with the new terms, you can delete your account and cancel any subscription before they take effect. If you keep using Waevo after that, the new terms apply.
17. Law, courts and other terms
- These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring legal proceedings in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings there. If you live elsewhere, you keep any protection that the mandatory consumer laws of your country give you.
- We may transfer this agreement to another organisation, for example if Waevo becomes a limited company. We'll tell you, and your rights won't be reduced. You can't transfer your rights under these terms to anyone else.
- Apart from Apple (section 15), nobody else has rights under these terms.
- If a court decides part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If we don't enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
